We're proud to continue our commitment to sustainable environmental progress through the expansion of our electric vehicle (EV) forklift fleet at all new freight hubs across New Zealand.
Our work through the Toitu Carbon Reduction programme has highlighted the need implement reduced emissions solutions wherever possible. So, while designing our new freight hubs to harness solar power, we wanted to take a good look at how we could extend the usefulness of this renewable energy within our operations. The answer was clear, invest in electric forklifts and on-site equipment.
Over the past 18 months, we've deployed 30x Heli G2 forklifts powered by advanced Li-ion battery technology across all of our new freight hubs, while gradually phasing out our existing forklifts at all freight hubs across the country. This equipment benefits from the solar power generated at our new freight hubs to reduce our overall emissions, and deliver more sustainable solutions for New Zealand.
What does this mean for our customers
It's important to recognise that as an industry we still have a long way to go with our overall emissions reduction efforts. It's not always just about swapping gas for batteries - but, instead it's about finding the most efficient solution for the job. In the case of the forklifts, not only can we power them from our own solar panels, but the lift speed is actually 10% faster and there's no idling emissions when the vehicle isn't moving. So, not only are they a more energy efficient solution - they're actually getting the job done better and faster for our customers.
Our sustainability commitment
As proud members of the Toitū Carbon Reduction programme, we work dilligently to accurately measure our greenhouse gas emissions and implement strategies to manage and reduce our environmental impact. To achieve our independent certification in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018, our emmissions data is disclosed with full transparency to ensure our partners, customers, and communities that we are committed to making a difference for New Zealand.
