As part of our commitment to delivering for all regions in New Zealand, we're excited to announce that we have opened a new 1,500 sqm freight hub strategically located in Cromwell. Servicing the wider Central Otago region with complete linehaul, and metro service routes into Queentown, Wanaka, Alexandra and surrounds.
What you can expect inside our new Cromwell facility
- Freight operations: Our new Cromwell facility brings our full-service operations under one roof, creating seamless supply chain efficiencies for our customers. The investment in this new facility enables our team to deliver smooth and efficient services to local Central Otago businesses with a delivery time that matches those of the major regions.
- Linehaul and Metro Services: This facility is equiped for linehaul and metro fleet services, which allow us to create a more customised service solution for your business and deliver the fastest possible service standard time across from Central Otago to the rest of the country.
- Seamless Efficiency: This site benefits from 30 years of Mainstreams operational learnings and efficiency design, which accommodates multiple linehaul units for simultaneous loading and de-loading alongside our metro fleet. This configuration reduces handling time, and ensures our team can deliver the fastest possible service standard time even at peak load times.
- Systematic Design: As the most recent Mainstream spec freight hub, this Cromwell site operates on an identical footprint to our Nelson freight hub, and follows the same proven freight management flow as our Hamilton, Palmerston North, and Coromandel freight hubs.
What does this new facility mean for Central Otago
I've been working in freight and logistics in Central Otago for nearly 20 years and it's been fantastic to see the recent investment and growth here. Personally, I take a lot of pride in the fact that we're now able to offer a full-service solution to local businesses with delivery times match those of the major regions across the country.

Harnessing the Central Otago sunshine
Cromwell is well regarded for it's stable climate and over 2,000+ annual sunshine hours, which power our facility through the 112 roof installed solar panels. This sustainable energy solution produces enough electricity to power this facility, including our electric forklifts and on-site machinery. As well generating a surplus of energy which is distributed back into the grid to support the sustainability efforts of the Central Otago region.
Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability
Reflecting our commitment to protect New Zealand's precious environment and reduce global emissions. This new site has achieved the Greenstar 5 rating with water efficient landscaping, and smart lighting across the facility to minimise electricity where possible. As well as electric (EV) charge points to charge our expanding fleet of electric forklifts and equipment.
